Allowing Traffic
If you need to open the area back up to traffic immediately after installation, you will want to compact the area with a vibratory plate compactor. This will handle straight through traffic without causing issues. If you need to immediately open the area to turning traffic, grab a piece of plywood and spray a non-sticking oil or Pam cooking spray (yes, we went there...) on the bottom side of the plywood and place it over the patched area. Give the area about an hour to fully cure before removing the plywood.
Cold Weather
Make sure you don't store the binder or tack coat where it can freeze. That said, the product CAN be used down to around 28-30º F without a problem, just make sure it is kept warmer than freezing before mixing.
Tack Coat Calculations
The TrowelPave Tack Coat is a recommended product for all of the TrowelPave asphalt repair products. It creates a tacky bond between the existing asphalt and the TrowelPave repair material, ensuring a solid bond between both surfaces. It's basically a primer for asphalt.
The manufacturer recommended calculation for the TrowelPave Asphalt Tack Coat is 0.4225 oz per lb of material.
In the case of a single 25lb pail, you should use just over 10.5oz of Tack Coat .
In the case of a single 45lb pail, you should use right at about 19oz of Tack Coat.
For a Full pallet of 25lb buckets, you'll use around 676oz of Tack Coat which is just shy of eighteen (18) 38oz bottles.
For bulk pallet options with the Tack Coat included, we have added additional bottles just to make sure you have plenty to work with. Some extra leftover might be expected.
Premium Application Solution
If you're looking for a long-lasting repair using the TrowelPave product, we highly recommend that you seal over the patched area with a quality sealcoat sealer.
It's a 3-part process with the first being the tack coat, the second is the patch and the third is an asphalt sealer.
