Looking for a powered broom that will clean gutters, against buildings and get into tight spaces? The Bensink line of walk-behind rotary broom is the answer to your problem. If price is your biggest concern, the mechanical drive Bensink RBMGX is a fantastic choice over its hydraulic drive counterpart. This unit uses a belt and pulley system to drive a centrifugal clutch and 15:1 gearbox. Other than the occasional belt replacement, there is very little in the way of maintenance with this unit.

Powered by a Honda GX160 engine which features low oil shutdown, you can rest assured that you are getting a motor and pavement sweeping unit that is built to last.

The mechanical drive system also allows for angled sweeping by simply changing the angle of the rear axle with 3 different hole position options. This makes it great for general crack cleaning for the asphalt maintenance industry.

When compared to the hydraulic model, the one downside of this mechanical drive pavement sweeping machine is a fixed clockwise rotation of the broom head. This unit only spins one direction and can't be changed where-as the hydraulic unit allows both clockwise and counter-clockwise rotation giving you maximum flexibility when cleaning.

While the Bensink rotary booms aren't self-propelled, they are light enough to easily push. With a minor welding modification (not currently available from the factory), this unit can be hooked up to ride-on attachments like the Titan LazyLiner powered carts.

As far as construction goes, the steel frames are powder-coated for maximum carriage durability. The side-to-side adjustable handlebars are made from stainless steel to prevent bending and give the unit a professional look.

Keep in mind that rotary brooms fill a specific need that barrel / horizontal brooms cant meet, just like a 48" horizontal broom will clean in ways the rotary brooms can't. If we had a recommendation of one over the other, get both for their own unique tasks. Just like most lawn crews that have a ride-on mower and a push mower. Same tool for the same job but two very different uses.

Broom Head Replacement

One question that might come up, is "how long does the broom head last?" Since the broom is made from high tensile strength steel, they last for quite a while. As a rule of thumb, contractors typically replace the broom head once every season as a general maintenance item. If you aren't planning to use the Bensink RBMGX walk-behind rotary broom every day, then you can easily expect to get 2-3 or more years out of the broom.

When it does come time to replace the head, it isn't hard but does get a little involved. Plan on roughly 1.5 hours for your first time but it usually takes about an hour after you've done it a few times.
