Description

Add traction to your asphalt pavement with the BIG A PitchGrip™ Coal Tar sealer. This is a ready-to-use formula that includes a pitch-black aggregate for minimum slipping and long-lasting color.

Made with coal tar, water, latex, mineral additives, and ore slag, the BIG A PitchGrip Coal Tar Sealer is an emulsion formula with aggregate that will make your blacktop look great and lasts longer than many of the box store brands making it the perfect asphalt sealer for the job, especially when you need to meet federal specification RP-355e.

When sand is used as the traction aggregate in sealcoat sealers, the sealer wears off the top of the sand grains and exposes a variety of colors making the surface look aged and worn. Our product, the BIG A PitchGrip Coal Tar uses a special slag material that is pitch black all the way through so you don't have the odd color surface as you do with sand keeping your pavement looking great for longer.

Our BIG A PitchGrip Coal Tar is similar to our regular BIG A Coal Tar Sealer, with the addition of the pitch aggregate and also a touch of latex. These two added ingredients make for a long-lasting and great-looking black coal tar sealer.

With this product including an aggregate, it makes it the perfect "2nd coat" application sealer if you plan to seal asphalt with two coats. Coal tar sealers by nature are very thin and many times will require that second coat to ensure you get the longevity you expect out of a sealer. Are two coats necessary? Not always, but if you have an old driveway or parking lot that has faded to a light gray, you might want to consider two coats. If you only plan to do one coat, this product will work just fine too and gives the bonus of added traction.

If coal tar is the type of sealer you're looking for, you won't be disappointed with the BIG A PitchGrip Coal Tar.

What is "PitchGrip™"?

The BIG A PitchGrip Coal Tar denotes the two special characteristics of the aggregate:

1) Pitch = Black; Angular / Rigid
2) Grip = Traction

It's a coal tar with a black, rigid aggregate that stays black and has better traction properties than sand.

Testimonial

Check out what Eric had to say about the BIG A PitchGrip Coal Tar Sealer:

Following up on our conversation on the Pitch Grip product, I put it down today.

My observations:

Summary: Excellent product! Consistency was a bit thick initially, so I did dilute (thin) it a bit to make it go the entire distance.

  • Application Weather: Clear, Hot, 92 F; Humidity 45%
  • Application Method: squeegee
  • Dilution: Yes, < 5% (5% max dilution per specifications)
  • Surface to cover: ~500 sq ft
  • Appearance: as described, nice dark finish with the aggregate visible - very nice looking finish with a very noticeable grip from the aggregate ore slag

I used a paint auger to stir the 5 gal bucket and found that it did a great job of mixing the emulsion into a uniform albeit thick consistency.

Other notes: My driveway is what I would consider in good condition, however the aggregate tends to thicken the consistency a bit and it goes on thick (which is good) and it didn’t cover as much as I was hoping to, but this is really good as the aggregate is so thick that it prevents a ‘skim coat’ from being put down.

Recommendation: I would look at perhaps revising the coverage area if applied undiluted to 450 sq ft

Bottom line: I absolutely love it! Looks great and will definitely wear well.

The aggregate is so coarse I would liken it to 60/80 grit sandpaper in texture. Simply awesome.

It’s been down for 4 days now. The odor has dropped substantially, but I personally like the smell of coal tar and creosote so it wasn't a big deal.

A final note for you: Some very heavy and unexpected rain fell about 6 hours after the application was completed and there is no sign anywhere of any aggregate washing away or any detrimental effects to the sealer.
